What Counselling Is
Counselling is a “talking therapy” and allows you to discuss your problems and any difficult feelings you may encounter in a safe, confidential environment. It is a process that allows you to change something in your life or simply explore your thoughts and feelings in more depth. You will be listened to in an empathetic way.
Counselling is not about giving advice, being judgemental, attempting to sort out your problems for you or expecting a client to behave as the counsellor would do if confronted with similar problems in their own life.
It is about looking at your issue or what is distressing you from your own perspective, based on your own value system.
How Counselling Can Help
Counselling can help with long-term physical health problems, difficult life events such as redundancy, divorce, trauma and many other mental health concerns. Sometimes, speaking to a professional and not your loved ones can make all the difference. Friends do not always understand whilst a counsellor can offer understanding and direction.
